For the fifth  year in a row California Giant Berry Farms has participated in the local NBC Affiliate KSBW holiday event called ‘Share Your Holiday’.  Each year the station has a telethon type event throughout the central coast of California over an 8 hour time period encouraging the community to donate food, clothing, toys and cash to support the local chapters of the Salvation Army.

'Growing Matters' Coalition: Neonics Significantly Increase Yields In Major Crops

In a comprehensive analysis of more than 1,500 field studies conducted over 20 years, an agricultural economist reports that neonicotinoid insecticides provided average yield increases ranging from 3.6 to 71.3 percent in eight major crops across North America.  This research indicates the average yield benefit of using neonicotinoids far exceeds the cost of treatment and delivers a substantial economic return on investment to the farmer.

Scottish & French Pelagic Fleets Join Blue Whiting Assessment

Two new pelagic fishing groups have joined the multinational MSC assessment for North Atlantic blue whiting (Micromesistius poutassou). The Scottish Pelagic Sustainability Group (SPSG) and vessels from Compagnie-des-Pêches de Saint Malo join pelagic vessels from Denmark, France, Germany, Lithuania and The Netherlands to be assessed. Both companies already hold MSC certificates for herring (SPSG) and saithe (Companie-des-Peches de St Malo) respectively.
