Village Farms is pleased to announce that all votes have been tallied and our exclusive authentic variety ‘Heavenly Villagio Marzano®’ won the distinction of best tasting tomato during PMA Fresh Summit in Anaheim, CA.  Visitors to Village Farms exhibit that took part in the Garden Fresh Flavor™ Challenge voted on their favorite tomato among three varieties during a blind taste test.  Heavenly Villagio Marzano®, an extremely flavorful San Marzano type of tomato, won the challenge.

US Senator Mary L. Landrieu Delivers $19 Million For LA Crawfish Industry

U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., Chair of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, today announced that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will pay $19 million to the Louisiana crawfish industry from unpaid duties the agency collected in a court judgment against Chinese processors that illegally dumped crawfish on the U.S. market.   CBP announced its decision at a meeting with leaders of the Louisiana crawfish industry that was requested by Sen. Landrieu.  This marks the largest single payout ever received by the crawfish industry, and is nearly three times more than last year's payout.

P.E.I. Fishermen To Determine Lobster Levy This Week

In a trick or treat decision, a vote to determine the fate of P.E.I. lobster promotion will be counted later this week. Island fishermen are mulling over a secret ballot to determine whether a penny a pound levy — that could generate $500,000 annually — goes ahead next year for marketing promotion.
