Schnuck Talks Grocery Challenges, Changes

Scott Schnuck, chairman of Schnuck Markets Inc., spoke at the United Way of Southeast Missouri's CEO Luncheon on Friday at Farraddays restaurant at Isle Casino Cape Girardeau. The St. Louis-based chain was established 75 years ago, founded by Schnuck's grandmother, Anna Donovan Schnuck. The chain employs 15,000 "teammates" in 98 stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Wisconsin.

Giant Eagle CEO Loves Competitive Columbus Grocery Market

Giant Eagle, a privately owned grocer based in Pittsburgh, has added dozens of stores in central Ohio since coming to the market in 2001 during Big Bears death throes. Columbus is the chains most competitive market, where it goes up against Kroger (the nations largest grocer), Wal-Mart, Meijer and many specialty retailers such as Whole Foods, Trader Joes and Aldi.

Roundy’s Sells Saukville Store To Piggly Wiggly, Plans To Close Two Other Pick ‘N Save Stores

Milwaukee-based grocer Roundy's said Wednesday it plans to sell one of its Pick 'n Save stores to the Piggly Wiggly chain and will also close two stores — one in Milwaukee and one in West Allis.
