Canadian cattle producers are working to make beef a more sustainable food source, say farmers in the wake of a study that shows beef production is far more environmentally damaging than other food production.

The National Turkey Federation praised USDA for moving forward with its Modernization of Poultry Slaughter Inspection rule.  USDA released the final version of the rule, which will allow poultry plants nationwide the option to implement an enhanced inspection program that focuses even greater attention on the prevention of microbiological hazards.

USDA Announces Additional Requirements, New Inspection System For Poultry

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) today announced a critical step forward in making chicken and turkey products safer for Americans to eat. Poultry companies will have to meet new requirements to control Salmonella and Campylobacter, and up to 5,000 foodborne illnesses will be prevented each year as a result of the New Poultry Inspection System (NPIS), an updated science-based inspection system that positions food safety inspectors throughout poultry facilities in a smarter way.

Not a Champagne Cocktail – It only sounds like one. I'm talking about Pink Mink™ clematis. Something about the name makes me think of cool '60's people drinking colorful cocktails and jamming to Tom Jones music. (The actual Pink Mink soundtrack is something else entirely.) Anyway, the plant itself is as fabulous as Mr. Jones in his prime: showy and really easy to love. Oh heck. Tom Jones has still got it.
