Bob Antle Receives E.E. Harden Award

The 76th annual Grower-Shipper golf tournament and gala events were highlighted by the presentation of the Association's E.E. "Gene" Harden Award for Lifetime Achievement in Central Coast Agriculture to Bob Antle. A capacity crowd at GSA’s dinner dance on June 21 honored Bob for not only his lasting and significant contributions to agriculture, but also his extensive and longtime generosity to many philanthropic and educational institutions and endeavors in our community.

Offshore Blue Ocean Mariculture Fish Farm Proposes Expansion

In a draft environmental assessment published Tuesday by the state Department of Health Office of Environmental Quality Control, the company, Blue Ocean Mariculture LLC, asserts that extensive monitoring of water quality over eight years at the current farm has shown no significant environmental impact, and expansion is not expected to have a significant environmental impact either.

Sen. Vitter Amendment Would Give Red-Snapper Control To Gulf States

The Bipartisan Sportsmen's Act of 2014 will be debated on the floor of the Senate this week, and Sen. David Vitter has added two amendments that will impact Gulf of Mexico red-snapper anglers if the bill passes. The second, and perhaps more important amendment, would turn over management of red snapper in federal waters to the Gulf states. After passage of the bill, the secretary of Commerce would have 120 days to grant authority to the states to manage the fishery.
