Peru Trade Commission Hosts ‘Avocados From Peru Project’ At Aspen Food & Wine Classic

Avocados from Peru made its first-ever appearance at the recent Food & Wine Classic in Aspen June 19 – 22, where the world's most influential chefs, sommeliers, culinary innovators and foodies gather each year. Avocados from Peru painted the town “green” with a larger-than-life full-color rolling billboard playfully positioned on a luxury liner bus, reminding event guests that Peru’s summer fruit is now in peak season and available across the United States.

DeVaney Named Washington State Tree Fruit Association President

On Tuesday, the Transition Board of Directors of the Washington State Tree Fruit Association (WSTFA) named Jon DeVaney as President.  The soon-to-be consolidated industry organization will be formed from the merger of the Washington State Horticultural Association (WSHA), Yakima Valley Grower-Shippers Association (YVGSA), Wenatchee Valley Traffic Association (WVTA) and Washington Growers Clearing House Association (WGCH).

Washington Blueberry Growers Meet Growing Demand

Washington blueberry growers expect to meet growing demand by harvesting more than 90 million pounds of blueberries, making Washington State 4th in total U.S. blueberry production.   

Mackerel Fisheries Unite To Start MSC Reassessment

Over 700 mackerel fishing vessels will start MSC reassessment. The fishing boats range from small coastal handline vessels through to large ocean-going pelagic trawlers. Between them, in 2013 they caught 450,000 tonnes of mackerel, around 83% of the ICES recommended quota.
