Samherji Norwegian & Icelandic Herring Trawl & Seine Fishery MSC Certified

Icelandic companies, Samherji  hf and Síldarvinnslan hf (part owned Samherji hf) have been awarded MSC certificates for  both of their herring fisheries. The Norwegian spring-spawning herring and Icelandic summer-spawning herring fisheries together land just under 91,000 tonnes per year representing 24.95% of the Icelandic quota for Norwegian spring-spawning herring and 28.84% or the quota for Icelandic summer-spawning herring.

$2 Ohio Beef Checkoff Collection Underway

The Ohio Beef Council will begin collecting the additional $1 state beef checkoff on Monday, June 2, 2014, following a referendum in which Ohio beef producers voted in favor to increase the total Ohio Beef Checkoff from $1 to $2 per head. The state checkoff assesses an additional dollar and funds generated support beef demand building programs in Ohio.
