WAPA Releases Southern Hemisphere Apple & Pear Crop Forecasts

Representatives of key apple and pear producing and exporting countries from around the world met on 7 February 2014 at the recent FruitLogistica fair in Berlin for the annual general meeting of the World Apple and Pear Association (WAPA). During its annual meeting WAPA released its annual consolidated crop forecasts for the forthcoming southern hemisphere apple and pear seasons.

Kanzi Brand Apples Have Arrived

Washington grown Kanzi® brand apples are hitting U.S. markets this week and due to high demand for this premium apple, in combination with limited early production on young trees, supplies are limited. An unfortunate hail event last season eliminated the crop of Kanzi® brand apples, but this year’s crop looks spectacular.  In 2014, growers are working on additional plantings to ensure increased production in the years ahead to meet strong market demand.

Mann Packing is celebrating the company’s 75th anniversary in 2014. Founded in 1939 by H.W. “Cy” Mann as a carrot packing operation, the company soon started growing broccoli for frozen food companies.  Mann saw potential for the then relatively unknown vegetable and began shipping broccoli to America’s heartland.
