The Produce Marketing Association (PMA),  Fedefruta, Chile’s Fruit Growers Federation and Yentzen Group has announced a partnership to bring together the fresh produce supply chain at the inaugural PMA Fruittrade Latin America, an international convention and exposition in Santiago, Chile, November 12-13, 2014.

California Avocado Industry Makes Progress On GAP Certification

In just two years the California Avocado Commission’s (CAC’s) new Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) program is yielding very impressive results, with more than 600 California avocado groves having gone through GAP certification. To encourage participation CAC established a GAP Incentive Rebate, and to date $100,000 has been paid out to GAP-certified California avocado growers for their actual audit cost.

Mussel Farm Approved Off Jamestown, RI's West Shore

A new aquaculture farm recently won approval from the state Coastal Resources Management Council, the harbor commissioners learned at their December meeting. American Mussel Harvesters' Adam Silkes plans to build a longline blue mussel farm off Jamestown’s west shore. The farm will encompass 8.25 acres, according to the CRMC.

The Mercury’s Falling.. In Women’s Seafood Consumption

Though Americans still chowed down on about the same amount of fish between 1999 and 2010, blood levels of mercury in women of childbearing age appear to have dropped 34 percent during that time. And there’s been a 65 percent drop in the percentage of women in that age group who have enough mercury in their blood to spark health concerns.
