The FDA and USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) have finalized a major study to better understand the risk of foodborne illness associated with eating certain foods prepared in retail delicatessens and what changes in current practices may improve the safety of those products.

World Class Distribution of Fontana, California is voluntarily recalling one specific lot of Trader Joe’s Southwest Salad (SKU 56077) with a “Use by Date 11/2/13”, because it may not list soy in the ingredients. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. No illnesses have been reported to date.

Empire Specialty Cheese To Open New NY Manufacturing Plant

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that Empire Specialty Cheese Co., LLC will invest $6.37 million to expand its business in New York State. The company will purchase and upgrade an idle manufacturing facility in Chautauqua County to accommodate new and existing cheese production processes, resulting in the creation of 204 new jobs.
