Laura Chenel’s Chèvre announced today that it has been awarded LEED Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for its new Sonoma creamery, completed in 2011. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is the USGBC's rating system for the design and construction of energy-efficient and high-performing buildings. Laura Chenel’s Chèvre is considered to be the first cheese production facility awarded Gold, the second-highest of LEED's four levels of certification.

Arizona's Buckeye Dairy Touts New Product: Raw Goats Milk

Rhonda and her husband, Wendell, owners of Crow’s Dairy in Buckeye, began selling the raw milk in late June after receiving frequent inquiries from potential customers. The milk sells for about $10 a half gallon because goats are less productive than cows. A cow can provide 10 gallons of milk or more a day, while goats produce one gallon a day, with the same production costs.

Colteryahn Dairy is the oldest dairy in Pittsburgh, founded in 1893. Colteryahn thinks what sets his family dairy apart has been their foresight. The dairy has started producing neutraceuticals, probiotics, all-natural and organic products, energy drinks and shaved ice syrups, in addition to its standard dairy line of milk, juice and iced teas.
