Alberta, Canada Floods Have Supermarkets Running Low On Beef

The floods in Alberta are now having an impact on the meat sections in local grocery stores. That’s thanks to the closure of Cargill Ltd’s plant just outside High River, Alberta. The meat packer will restart as soon as the town’s water treatment plant is operational.

Rabobank Beef Quarterly Q2: Despite Decline, Relatively High Beef

The Rabobank’s Global Cattle Price Index continued to fall through May, down 6% relative to Q1 2013 on the back of a downtrend in cattle prices across the globe, notably in two of the most important export countries, Australia and Brazil. The strengthening US dollar also contributed to pushing global cattle prices down. However, according to Rabobank the broader picture for demand indicates consumers are becoming increasingly reluctant to continue paying high prices for beef.
