Third Annual Mango Mania Display Contest Commences In July

The National Mango Board (NMB) is calling on mango shippers for their help to encourage small retailers to participate in their third annual Mango Mania Display Contest throughout the month of July. The contest is designed specifically for individual stores or small chains with up to 50 stores to help boost their mango sales, all while showcasing their creativity and educating shoppers about mangos. More than $10,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to 27 winning produce department managers. All entries must be received at the NMB office by Aug. 19, 2013.

The presentations cover global retail and consumer trends, market overviews, food safety, local production and logistics and imports. In attendance were 340 industry professionals from all over the international market place including Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru and the U.S.

Specialty Crops Continue Strong Momentum In House Agriculture Committee Farm Bill

The Specialty Crop Farm Bill Alliance, a national coalition of more than 120 organizations representing growers of fruits, vegetables, dried fruit, tree nuts, nursery plants and other products, commends House Agriculture Committee Chairman Frank Lucas, Ranking Member Collin Peterson and committee members for passing their version of the Farm Bill on Wednesday.

Attendees to the United Fresh Produce Association’s annual convention and expo in San Diego cast their votes Wednesday and recognized this year’s New Product Awards in five categories. More than 30 fresh fruit and vegetable innovations competed in the categories of Best New Food Safety Solution, Best New Fruit Product, Best New Packaging, Best New Packing/Processing Equipment, and Best New Vegetable Product.
