Toronto's ACE Bakery Opens New Commercial Bakery In Gaffney

Toronto-based artisan bread maker ACE Bakery on Tuesday officially opened the doors to its first baking facility in the United States in the renovated former Romeo Rim plant at 131 Corporate Drive in Gaffney. The 60,000-square-foot represents an $18.4 million investment and 51 new jobs.

Two classes of culinary students from the Howard Community College (HCC) of Columbia, Md., attended the one-day event, gaining a first-hand look at the beef industry.

Seafood Traceability Program ‘The REEL Story’ Inspired By ‘Portlandia’ Sketch, Debuts In D.C.

D.C.-based Black Restaurant Group and the Congressional Seafood Co. last week launched The REEL Story, a seafood traceability program, to address these concerns. The concept is simple: each menu item is associated with a QR code; scan the code with your smartphone to see a complete history of your dinner, from information on where and how it was harvested, to recipe ideas and cooking methods.
