Florida Department Of Citrus Culinary Contests Seek Innovative Uses Of Florida Citrus

Cooking enthusiasts turn to Florida citrus to add a burst of sunshine to recipes during winter months and now, they can put their culinary creativity to the test and win prizes in the Just Add OJ Culinary Contest and the Juicy Scoop Recipe Photo Contest sponsored by The Florida Department of Citrus. To enter, participants simply need to create a recipe that calls for 100 percent orange juice (for the Just Add OJ Culinary Contest), or 100 percent grapefruit juice or fresh grapefruit (for the Juicy Scoop Recipe Photo Contest), take a picture of their creation and submit it via the dedicated tab on the respective Facebook page for a chance to win culinary- and wellness-inspired prizes.

Summerside Storm To Sell Ultimate PEI Baked Potatoes To Benefit Island Food Banks

The Summerside Storm basketball team will be featuring an “Ultimate PEI Baked Potato” booth at the March 8th National Basketball League home game of the Summerside Storm versus the Oshawa Power at the Credit Union Place in Summerside.  These baked potatoes will sell with all proceeds to be donated to Prince Edward Island Food Banks.

BAP’s QA Director Touts Certification At Aquaculture 2013

Jeff Peterson, director of quality control for the Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) program, gave a talk at the World Aquaculture Society’s (WAS) Aquaculture 2013 event on Feb. 23 outlining the advantages of third-party certification and clearing up any confusion over the certification’s role in aquaculture. Peterson also addressed the advantages of certification, including that certification helps fill an “information void” in communicating with the marketplace and consumers and can add value and differentiate farmed seafood products in the marketplace.
