Prince Edward Island Potato Growers Commit $500,000 Over Five Years To Potato Research

The Prince Edward Island Potato Board recently held a series of district meetings with Island potato growers to discuss making research a greater priority for the producer-controlled organization.  Meetings held in Alberton, Summerside, Charlottetown, and Montague in mid-January featured strong attendance from growers and valuable feedback on issues affecting the PEI potato industry.

The year 2012 was a record breaking year for Hass avocados with the industry topping the 1.5 billion pound consumption mark, 34 percent more than in 2011 when 1.137 billion pounds were consumed. Demand for Hass avocados in the United States has been increasing steadily over the last several years and consumers continue to add them to their diets, due in large part to the many successful marketing programs executed by the Hass avocado industry.
