NRA's 'What's Hot in 2013' Culinary Forecast Predicts Top Menu Trends

The National Restaurant Association (NRA) each year prepares its “What’s Hot” culinary forecast of menu trends for the coming year. The NRA surveyed more than 1,800 professional chefs – members of theAmerican Culinary Federation (ACF) – to find that children’s nutrition and local sourcing will continue to be the hottest trends on restaurant menus in 2013. This year, the NRA also surveyed nearly 200 professional bartenders – members of theUnited States Bartenders’ Guild (USBG) – revealing that onsite barrel-aged drinks, food-liquor pairings, and culinary cocktails will be the hottest trends on restaurant drink menus in 2013.

Secretary Vilsack Announces Mango & Watermelon Board Appointments

U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has appointed five members to serve on the National Mango Board. Each representative will complete a three-year term of office beginning Jan. 1, 2013. Vilsack has also appointed 12 members to serve on the National Watermelon Promotion Board. Each representative will also serve a three-year term of office beginning Jan. 1, 2013.
