Delhaize Group, the Belgian international food retailer, announced that it has recruited Roland Smith as President and Chief Executive Officer of Delhaize America and Executive Vice President of Delhaize Group, effective October 15, 2012. Mr. Smith will succeed Ronald C. Hodge who has been with the company 33 years and will remain with Delhaize America in an advisory role to ensure a smooth transition before retiring later this year.

Alliance For Food & Farming Seeks ‘Dirty Dozen’ Champions

As part of its efforts to defend hard-working fruit and vegetable farmers and to end misconceptions that can spread widely throughout the media and Internet, the Alliance for Food and Farming is putting together a team of individuals from within the produce industry to represent each of the twelve items that frequently appear on the Environmental Working Group’s so-called “Dirty Dozen” list.  The volunteers will be asked to work with the Alliance staff to speak out on behalf of the health and safety of all produce whether conventional or organically-grown.

National Peanut Board Members & Alternates Appointed

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack appointed three members and four alternates to serve on the National Peanut Board. Members and alternates will serve three-year terms of office beginning Jan. 1, 2013, with the exception of a Florida alternate who will serve for two years.
