A new cultural mix is shaping the retail food market, according to the What’s In Store 2012 report from the International Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association™ (IDDBA). The burgeoning U.S. Hispanic population, in addition to single-person households, are steadfast forces in the grocery aisle. Active Baby Boomers and newly empowered Millennials are also a mushrooming presence in the market. At the same time, women and men are transforming gender stereotypes in retail. What’s in Store is a secondary research trends report compiled from over 150 credible industry resources.

Appeals Court Upholds 2006 California Milk Law

An ambivalent appeals court has upheld a law backed by the California dairy industry and sponsored by Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Visalia, that forcibly folded a large Arizona dairy into a web of government regulations. The law, called the Milk Regulatory Equity Act, was passed in response to dairy industry complaints about operations at Sarah Farms, who would buy low-cost milk in California, bottle it in Yuma, Ariz., and then ship it back to California, typically for sale to big retailers such as Costco or Sam's Club.
