Ripe fruit gives off ethylene, and many fruits ripen faster when exposed to it. Fruit producers use high concentrations of ethylene to ripen fruit in the warehouse so it is ready to eat when it reaches consumers. Inexpensive, accurate ethylene sensors would enable better control of that process. It would also allow retailers to avoid wastage by monitoring fruit ripeness.

WP Rawl Supports The Rockin’ Appalachian Mom Project

WP Rawl (Rawl) gives back to local communities through support of the Rockin’ Appalachian Mom Project (RAMP), a non-profit dedicated to fighting poverty in the Appalachian region of the U.S. through nutrition. This is the third year in a row Rawl has supported RAMP. Last week, Rawl spread some holiday cheer by donating 465 individual gift boxes of fresh greens, seasonal fruits and vegetables, and coupons for Nature’s Greens, Versatile Veggies and Paula Deen products to the Homecoming Food Pantry in Inez, Ky, and to some of the neediest school children in the community as identified through RAMP’s Backpack Snack Program.
