The Wenneman Meat Co. is opening a new 22,000-square-foot building where a fire destroyed the previous one 9 months ago. Meat production began at the new building last week. Wenneman Meat Co. offers bratwurst, sausage, hot dogs, smokies, hams and Angus beef for customers throughout Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri and Arkansas.

DeBragga & Spitler Open Jersey City Plant

Jersey City became home last week to what was formerly the largest meat purveyor in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, when DeBragga & Spitler opened a $2.5 million, 25,000-square-foot facility on Amity Street.

Hogs Stay Strong While Markets Decline

The October hog futures contract picked up almost $6 per hundredweight from Monday to $94.35 at the close Friday on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. The December contract gained almost $3 per hundredweight during the week to $89.35.
