Mediators Set 'Intensive' Talks To Avert Grocery Strike

In a bid to avert a work stoppage at the Big Three supermarket chains in Southern California, federal mediators on Monday set an Aug. 29 meeting to begin "intensive" talks to try to resolve differences between management and the union representing 62,000 food workers.

New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher today announced that a new pest threat to the state’s fruit industry has been found by entomologists from the Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES). Drosophila suzukii, also known as the “spotted wing drosophila,” was found in a vinegar trap on a blueberry farm in Atlantic County.
