Marinetics Inc., a private aquaculture facility, raises and harvests oysters under the Choptank Sweets and Choptank Salts brands. The company, established in 1996, harvests between a half-million and one-and-a-half million oysters each year.

Southeast Alaska Dungeness Crabs Show High PSP Toxin Levels

Viscera from Dungeness crab harvested from Southeast Alaska waters are showing elevated levels of the toxins that cause paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP). Three samples taken by the Department of Fish & Game in area 115-32 on Thursday, July 14, have PSP levels above the legal limit of 70 micrograms per hundred grams (7g/100g).

Pork Product Prices Reach Record Highs

The retail price average for all cuts of pork is at a record $3.35 per pound so far this year. And that average is expected to increase to about $3.40 for all of 2011, said Chris Hurt, Purdue University professor of agricultural economics.
