Maine's Small Grocers Scramble In Wake Of Supplier's Shutdown

Small and mid-sized grocers in Maine are scrambling to find new ways to stock their shelves, now that debts are forcing the closure of the longtime cooperative that supplies them. Associated Grocers of Maine informed markets and meat wholesalers yesterday that it is being forced into receivership by a state judge. The move is likely to hurt profits in the short run–and could ultimately force some independent grocers to shut down.
