Seattle Meat Cutters To Merge Into UFCW 21

Come Friday, two locals of the United Food and Commercial Workers will merge. Auburn-based Local 81, with about 1,500 meat cutters and wrappers in Kitsap, Mason and Thurston counties, will join Local 21, the Seattle-based local made up of grocery-store, retail and health care workers. UFCW 21 has 35,000 members in Western Washington, 2,682 of them in Kitsap County.

Chiquita & Cooperative For Ed. Partner To Break Poverty Cycle In Guatemala

Cincinnati-based nonprofit Cooperative for Education (CoEd) recently received international support in the form of a prestigious grant from Chiquita Brands. The $10,000 grant will support the organizations Guatemala Textbook Program, bringing first-ever textbooks to more than 1,200 youths in rural Guatemala.
