Alpina Expanding After Only Seven Months

BATAVIA, N.Y. — In September, Alpina Foods cut the ribbon on its $18 million yogurt manufacturing plant in Batavia. It's the Colombian company's first plant in the United States.

Now, just a few months after the ribbon cutting, the plant is expanding. Members from the organization say they were hoping to expand, but this is much quicker than anticipated.

"We have the volume and fortunately, the community has the milk," said project manager Roger Parkhurst.

Alpina makes yogurt and other dairy products at the Genesee County Agri-Business Park. A large tank being installed is meant to store milk, and according to Parkhurst, will drastically increase production.
