Just how many volunteer taste testers will admit, after the fact, that they were pleasantly surprised remains to be seen.
But some visitors to the Anderson Erickson Dairy tent at the Iowa State Fair may assume – even before they taste Greek yogurt – that they probably will not like it.
After all, Greek-style, or strained yogurt, is from a different culture and until recently was only available in health or specialty food stores around Des Moines. What's more, the yogurt has a reputation for being the hot and trendy food of the moment on the East and West coasts.
Still, the Des Moines dairy plans to launch its own line of five Greek-style yogurts in November. Before that, beginning Thursday, State Fairgoers will be invited to taste samples of the new yogurt product, which has been in development for more than a year and a half.
