LA Seafood Certification Program Loses Participation

A program aimed at allowing people to easily identify Louisiana seafood has seen a slight dip in participants over the last year.

The Louisiana Wild Seafood Certification Program has dropped to 103 participants from 159 last year, Richard Williams, a coordinator with the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said.

One reason for the decrease, Williams said, is because of budget cuts. There is no longer someone in the field helping people sign up, and the onus is more on the fishermen and dealers to sign up and renew their licenses.
