BILOXI, Miss. – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announced Wednesday that the commercial fishing season for Red Drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) will open in Mississippi territorial waters at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1.
The annual total allowable catch for commercial Red Drum is 60,000 pounds. The total allowable catch for Sept. 1 through Dec. 31 will be 20,000 pounds. If the 20,000-pound limit is reached before Dec. 31, the season will be closed until Jan. 1, 2017.
MDMR officials also remind recreational fishermen that the state season for Red Snapper (Lutjanus campechanus) will close in Mississippi territorial waters at 11:59 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5.
