Cesena – Almost 30 conferences have been scheduled, including bilateral meetings between companies and foreign delegations, technical guided tours and the prestigious Oscar award for innovation. Once again, the 2014 edition of Macfrut, the international trade fair for the fruit and vegetable sector to be held at Cesena Fiera (Italy) from 24 to 26 September, will offer a wide range of technical initiatives, meetings and events dedicated to the entire supply chain. Moreover, given the large number of foreign participants, several conferences will be supported by an interpreter so that foreign guests will be able to take part in discussions.
The trade fair will begin on Tuesday 23 September with a preview: the international conference “Asparagus: a forward-looking produce”, which will take place in the Sala Verde from 9am to 2pm. The inauguration of Macfrut itself, instead, is scheduled for Wednesday 24 September at 10am, immediately followed by a meeting on relations between Italy and Brazil.
Among the international events, a special highlight will be the third conference, the “World Food Research and Innovation Forum”, on Thursday 25 September from 9.45am onwards, which will focus on “Technologies and Models for a Correct Nutrition”. It will be followed by the round table “Tunisia: a Strategic Location for Companies Operating in the Mediterranean Area” in the afternoon, at 2pm, in the Sala Delegazioni. At the same time, another conference will take place in the Sala Gialla, focusing on the miniaturisation of processing technologies in support of rural development.
On Friday, Brazil will yet again be the main protagonist. In the Sala Agricoltura, from 10am onwards, opportunities for the agri-food sector in South America will be analysed.
Two technical guided tours will also be included in the range of activities offered. This year, they will be dedicated to small fruits and a product that is undergoing major development: the pomegranate. On this second occasion, themes such as plant nurseries and genetic research will be addressed.
THE OSCAR MACFRUT AWARD FOR INNOVATION
One of the most anticipated events at Macfrut is the annual Oscar award for innovation, which acknowledges innovative products in the fruit and vegetable supply chain that have been launched on the market after 1 January 2013. Four categories will be involved: machines and technologies for sorting and packaging; packaging and packaging materials; seeds and fresh fruit and vegetable products; and logistics and services.
A committee featuring leading representatives of institutions and of agri-food research will select and reward the most cutting-edge products presented by exhibitors. In addition to the prizes for each category, which will be awarded based on the evaluations of the judges, a general prize will also be given according to the preferences of visitors and exhibitors attending the trade fair. The award ceremony will take place on 26 September at 12.00pm.
