Sam Martin, who was hired to lead the turnaround of struggling supermarket company The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. has left the Montvale-based grocery chain, the company confirmed Friday.
Martin, 57, was hired in the summer of 2010 as chief executive officer and led the company as it filed for bankruptcy in December of that year, and as it emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in March 2012.
After the company emerged from bankruptcy, Martin staked out a role for himself as a highly visible chief executive, appearing in a series of television commercials, and acting as a judge on a short-lived reality television show for would-be food entrepreneurs.
