It might be a national chain grocery store but Whole Foods Market in Basalt is keeping it local by bringing into its mix of offerings dozens of area vendors, giving small businesses an opportunity to flourish.
“We have 30-plus vendors,” said Amy Kasper, Whole Foods’ community relations and marketing director. “We hope to continue to grow that list.”
Whole Foods at Willits Town Center is slated to open on Wednesday, and several of the local food producers will be on hand touting their products. For many of them, having a presence at Whole Foods may just be the break they have been looking for.
“There’s a lot of us, it’s awesome,” said Aleece Alexander Gallagher, owner of Basalt-based Midland Baking Co., which will be providing an exclusive line of cupcakes for the grocery store, as well as several different kinds of muffins, scones, pastries and breads.
