DeWitt, Mich. — Plumb’s of North Muskegon, Mich., is the winner of the Michigan Apple Committee’s Jonagold display contest and the $500 cash prize.
“All the stores that entered the Jonagold display contest did a great job showcasing this popular, premier variety,” said Diane Smith, Interim Executive Director of the Michigan Apple Committee.
Plumb’s creative use of Michigan Apple signage, Michigan Apples bins, Jonagold cartons and a prominent produce department location, brought attention to the display and made it stand out from the other entries.
Second place went to Plumb’s of Newaygo, Mich. and Plumb’s Valu-Rite Foods of Muskegon, Mich. was third place.
Participants were asked to create a display of fresh Michigan Jonagold apples in bags, bulk, or both. The theme of the display had to be Jonagold specific and had to utilize the Michigan Jonagold euro or master tray cartons. Entries were judged on their use of Michigan Apple Committee signage, creativity of the display, how the display incorporated partner products, and its perceived ability to engage the consumer.
The Michigan Apple Committee is a grower-funded, nonprofit organization devoted to promotion, education and research activities to distinguish the Michigan apple and encourage its consumption by consumers in Michigan and around the world.
