Butterball, LLC Receives Five Worker Safety Awards For Commitment To Creating A Safe Workplace

GARNER, N.C. – Butterball, LLC, the nation’s largest poultry producer, has earned Worker Safety Recognition Awards from the American Meat Institute (AMI) for five of its facilities nationwide. These awards distinguish AMI member companies who demonstrate a strong commitment to creating a safer workplace for all meat and poultry industry employees. The awards were presented Wed., March 14 as part of AMI's Conference on Worker Safety, Health, Human Resources and the Environment in Kansas City, Mo.

Through this awards program, AMI works to increase awareness about the importance of worker safety and encouraging processors to develop safety programs that meet or exceed industry standards. The following is a breakdown of Worker Safety Recognition Awards Butterball facilities received this year:

· Award of Honor– Huntsville, Ark.
· Award of Honor – Ozark, Ark.
· Award of Merit – Carthage, Mo.
· Award of Merit – Jonesboro, Ark.
· Award of Merit– Mt. Olive, N.C.

Adopting standards developed by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Voluntary Protection Program (OSHA VPP), Butterball has designed reputable safety programs that have secured a number of prestigious accolades. Four of Butterball’s five facilities – in Carthage, Mo.; Jonesboro, Ark.; Ozark, Ark. and Huntsville, Ark. – have been designated OSHA Star Sites, with the Ozark, Ark. site recognized with the highest safety rating, OSHA Super Star, in 2010. Complexes holding this recognition have implemented worker safety programs that help lower injury occurrences and encourage high levels of employee participation at success rates significantly higher than industry averages.
