MANCHESTER, NH — The Meat House, a national gourmet butcher shop and grocer, raised over $23,000 at its 8th Annual Operation: Thank You! event at The Redhook Brewery in Portsmouth, NH on July 24th. All of the money raised is donated to the Chaplain Emergency Relief Fund (CERF), which provides quick financial help for military members and their families during times of financial hardship and unforeseeable events.
"We never imagined when we launched this event 8 years ago that it would become what it is today," said Justin Rosberg, founding partner of The Meat House, which has raised over $80,000 for CERF. "The outpouring of support in the community over the past 8 years has been amazing. It means a lot to our troops serving at home and abroad to know how much their sacrifice means to all of us. We at The Meat House are proud to do our part in recognizing the brave men and women who protect our country."
Vice President Joe Biden's wife Dr. Jill Biden joined more than 4,500 military personnel and supporters at the all-day event, accompanied by U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen and New Hampshire Governor John Lynch, to recognize the military and their families. As a mother who has seen her own son deployed to Iraq, Biden understands how much it means when members of the community offer support. For that reason, she and First Lady Michelle Obama started Joining Forces, a national initiative to support and honor America's service members and their families.
Operation: Thank You! began in 2004 as a way to thank and honor the military and their families for all of their sacrifice. The event keeps with The Meat House's philosophy and tradition of giving back to the military and supporting the communities in which their stores reside. This year The Meat House created the Charitable 11s Program to raise additional funds for CERF. On the 11th of every month since January 2011, The Meat House locations throughout New Hampshire and Maine have collected 11% of sales, raising a total of $24,000 thus far. The donations from Operation: Thank You! and the 11s program will be given to CERF on Veterans Day this year: 11/11/11.
"Operation: Thank You! is just one way of bringing the members of the community together to make a positive impact on the families who have sacrificed so much for our country," said Jason Parent, founding partner of The Meat House. "We set charitable goals across all 28 store locations, sponsoring and raising funds for several community organizations, schools, and charities across the country."
