There has been recent attention on the limited supplies of lettuce and leafy greens. The supply issue has been largely attributed to crop damage associated with an aggressive pest and disease complex of INSV and soil-borne diseases.

California First to Ban Plastic Produce Bags

California just became the first state to sign a bill that bans the distribution of plastic “pre-check out” bags. Gov. Gavin Newsom’s recent signing of Senate Bill 1046 will affect all grocery stores in California and eliminate those rolls of plastic bags we see in almost every produce section. State Sen. Susan Talamantes Eggman (D-Stockton) authored the bill, which passed the legislature on a party-line vote.

FPAA Welcomes New Board Members for Upcoming Term

The Fresh Produce Association of the Americas (FPAA) held its annual meeting on November 1, 2022. Attendees joined in-person at the Americana Hotel. This year the FPAA hosted the meeting just prior to the start of the 53rd Nogales Produce Convention and Golf Tournament to celebrate FPAA members and elect a new board as the association headed into its convention.

IFPA Celebrates the Awards of Excellence

 International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) celebrated a number of winners of key industry awards at the Global Produce & Floral Show this year.  The winners represent the best of the industry,  having been nominated and selected by industry leaders and members. 

ASC Achieves Objective With Latest Chilean Salmon Summit

On October 24-27, the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), together with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), convened in Puerto Varas, Chile with a select group of North American retailers and suppliers for the first “ASC & WWF Salmon Workshop and Summit,” aimed at connecting the American retail landscape to ASC-certified salmon production more directly.
