The plaintiffs allege that DairyAmerica and its members, cooperatives like California Dairies which acquire dairy products from farmers and sell them in bulk, have been actively misleading U.S. regulators about the price they charge for nonfat dry milk, which goes into everything from infant formula to candy bars. In doing so, the farmers claim, the cooperatives sought to boost profits at their expense—by millions of dollars. …

Their new line-up has “up to 4 times more nuts per serving than the other leading brands.” This is huge because other nut milk brands have been found to have minuscule amounts of actual nuts in their products and are instead loaded with various fillers, thickeners, and emulsifiers. Work began in late 2015 on the $235 million Dairy Farmers of America Meadowlark Dairy plant, a 321,000-square-foot facility that anticipates processing 83 truckloads of raw milk — about 4 million pounds — per day from dairy farms in southwest Kansas, turning the milk into about 85,000 tons of powdered milk annually that would fill 102 intermodal containers each week. Alan McEntee, DFA project manager, said earlier this month that the plant is on schedule and should be fully operational in September. …
