Dean Foods Applauds Recommendations Of 2010 Dietary Guidelines

Dean Foods Company today praised recommendations to “increase intake of fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products, such as milk, yogurt, cheese, or fortified soy beverages” in the release of the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The Dietary Guidelines, issued jointly by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, serve as the foundation of federal nutrition policy and nutrition education efforts to promote the health of all Americans.

Lower Cholesterol Levels Reported In Eggs

New data issued by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) reports the cholesterol content of eggs has dropped significantly since levels previously measured in 2002. The USDA recently reviewed the nutrient composition of standard large eggs and results show the average amount of cholesterol in one large egg – or its 50-gram equivalent within the further processed egg ingredient category – is 185 mg, or 12 percent lower than recorded in 2002. The analysis also reported that large eggs now contain 41 IU of vitamin D, an increase of 64 percent over the last recorded analysis.
